Sight Fractions Test

We have been working with fractions, decimals, and percents this week. While we have been studying the ways to convert back and forth, there are some that students should be familiar enough with that they do not have to solve them. We will have a timed test on these each day next week and the average of the scores will be taken. Any student who makes 100 will not have to take the tests the rest of the week. The sight fractions are listed below.

Multi-step Equations/The Distributive Property

This week we have been looking at several types of equations. The following video gives an example of solving a multi-step equation with the distributive property and combining like terms.

Here are the class notes for the week:

We will have a test on equations Thursday; study guides will be send home Wednesday and a copy is available by clicking below. Choose the file named "Equations Test 2".

2 Step Equations

Today we will begin solving 2 step equations, which take two kinds of problems we have been solving and combining them into one problem. I am attaching a teaching video below. This is my first teaching video, so please be patient with me as I learn something new as well.

Also, here  is my notebook page for the day.

Algebraic Expressions

This week we will be working on algebraic expressions and combining like terms. We will have a quiz Wednesday on the following key words. Students will need to be able to sort them according to operation. Students glued a sheet like this into their composition notebooks yesterday. This can be used as a study guide.

Fraction Test tomorrow!

Tomorrow we will take a test on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions. We completed a study guide in class today. Any student who gets the study guide signed can trade it in for extra credit on the test! If you missed it, here are the answers to the study guide.
There is an additional study guide available on the class website. If you are having trouble, there are some video tutorials on the previous Fractions post below.

1st 9 Weeks Extra Credit Project

This 9 weeks the students will be given the option to complete an extra credit assignment if they so choose. Grades will not be affected if students decide to not participate, but this will be the only extra credit assignment for the 9 weeks.

Assignment: Create a short video commercial to advertise the integer rules. Include the rules of addition, subtraction, and multiplication/division.  Email videos to chattomc@wcslive.com. All videos must be received by September 15; late videos will not be accepted. Groups of students may synergize and complete one video submission together. Be creative and have fun!

"Happy" about the First Day of School!

We've had a very "Happy" first week of school so far. We have established Leadership Notebooks and students should be using the daily planner for each class. This is a good way for parents to stay informed of what's going on in class.
